Overview

The challenge

In my final year of undergrad, I started Creative Cache, a small venture where I taught myself the basics of UI animation. As a passionate streamer, I wanted to give other streamers’ channels more personality through custom designs. The name reflects an online archive of my work and the belief that every step of the design process matters.

As a designer and owner I…:

✦ Designed and animated stream assets, including overlays, panels, scenes, avatars, and emotes, using After Effects, Photoshop, and Procreate

✦ Curate and implement visually compelling art, color schemes, and typography for web banners, ensuring a fresh and engaging look each week to highlight key promotions.

✦ Managed custom commissions end to end, from client communication and scoping to delivery

✦ Built the Creative Cache brand and kept visuals consistent across every asset set

✦ Launched and ran an Etsy shop, handling packaging, pricing, and marketing

Designing for others

Challenges
The hardest part was reaching people beyond my own circle. Short-form video wasn’t converting, so I pivoted to direct outreach, contacting 20+ streamers and communities. Half never replied, but the effort still brought in traffic and sales. I also had to learn to price my work properly (I started at $8 and moved to $15 to $25), and to stop over-polishing. Setting a “good enough” standard and asking for a second opinion helped me ship on time.

What I learned
I learned to design with the buyer in mind: their feedback led me to add VTuber-specific screens and rethink how I bundled assets. I also picked up Etsy SEO and ad testing, and learned that rejection is part of putting your work out there.

Looking ahead
This project strengthened my motion design skills and gave me a real sense of how audience research, feedback, and iteration shape a product. I’m taking that into my UX/UI work, especially on design systems and interactive experiences.
